You know your workout has been good when you wake up the next day and your body is sore. I actually like that feeling (at least the three times in my life that I’ve felt it). Biologically you have caused tiny injuries to your muscles called microdamage, but the good news is the muscles are designed to grow stronger from that process.
James 1:22 tells us: “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” (ESV)
Doing what the Bible teaches can cause damage. It can make us uncomfortable, it can cause us to lose popularity, it can change your future plans. If you are obedient to what the Bible teaches it may hurt, BUT it will also grow you. Spiritual inactivty leads to spiritual atrophy.
What to do?
1. If you attend church with your family, instigate the conversation on the way home or around the lunch/dinner table about how to apply the sermon and verses from the Bible to your life.
2. Be a bringer – Invite a friend with you next Wednesday or Sunday and during the course of the week talk about how you both can apply what you are learning.
